March 14 – (1988) Happy Birthday to NBA star Stephen Curry.
March 15 – (1979) Elvis Costello gets into a heated argument with members of Stephen Stills’ touring entourage at a Holiday Inn in Columbus, Ohio. After Costello makes disparaging remarks about America, he is punched by Bonnie Bramlett. Costello suffers a wave of negative press coverage after the incident is made public.
March 16 – (1990) Flea and Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers are arrested and charged for an incident two days earlier at a performance in Daytona Beach during MTV’s spring break coverage, in which they allegedly sexually assaulted and verbally abused a female audience member after jumping from the stage. They are released on $2,000 bail.
March 17 – (1979) Serial killer Richard Ramirez, aka the “Night Stalker”, commits the first two murders in his Los Angeles murder spree.
March 18 – (1978) California Jam II is held at the Ontario Motor Speedway in California. Over 300,000 fans come to see Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, Santana, Dave Mason, Foreigner, Heart and more.
March 19 – (1982) Ozzy Osbourne’s lead guitarist, Randy Rhoads, is killed in a freak accident in Leesburg, Florida when the plane in which he is riding buzzes Osbourne’s tour bus and crashes into a house. The plane’s pilot and a female passenger are also killed.
March 20 – (1980) Radio Caroline shuts down in the UK after radio ship Mi Amigo sinks in a storm.
