On This Day in Music – November 30, 1982

On this day in 1982, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” album was released. It spent 37 weeks in the number 1 position in the US from  February 26, 1983, to April 14, 1984. It became and remains the biggest selling pop album of all time, with sales over 70 million copies. Michael Jackson had said he wanted to “create an album where every song was a killer.” Mission accomplished! It won 8 Grammy’s and was 1984’s Album of the Year. Let’s not forget Eddie Van Halen’s amazing work on “Beat It,” which he did for free! Some of those extras in “Beat It” were actual members of the Bloods & Crips!
