Every Monday I will be taking you on a trip to a land mass far, far away. Namely Europe. We’ve got many unknown 80s gems over here and I’m so excited to be able to share them with you all. So here goes.
Welcome to Music Monday – A European 80s Journey!
Today’s destination…. my home. Belgium!
Ever heard of a country called Belgium? Chances are you have, but did you know that apart from having amazing chocolate and authentic real Belgian fries, we have produced some very nice 80s tunes for the world to enjoy? Or at least we tried.
Allow me to present to you, possibly one of our biggest hits abroad, ‘The Way to Your Heart’ by Soulsister. This song was released in 1988 and reached top 10 in the charts in various European countries. It even made it to #41 the US Billboard Hot 100! It’s such a good song and still gets played on the radio over here.
Another song I’m interested in showing you all is ‘I Lie and I Cheat’ by Won Ton Ton. This song was only a hit in both Belgium and the Netherlands.
I really like this one, I can just listen to it over and over again. Give it a listen! I think you’ll like it. 🙂
One to close off this week’s debut episode is a song that I just find so fascinating. ‘The Sound of C’ by Confetti’s. For clarity, ‘C’ refers to the name of the group. This one was released in 1988. I just *had* to insert the music video in it. Despite the relatively low quality, it’s a gem! Play this song at a party over here and you’ll surely have the whole place on their feet. It’s an iconic song that really deserves to be mentioned here.
Thank you all for having joined me on this first trip across the Atlantic. I hope you have enjoyed these three songs. Of course there are many more, but there are also many more countries to explore!
Stay tuned for next week when we fly to…. Sweden!
